He won the NBL Canada Most Valuable Player Award in 2014 and was named its MVP in 2008 while it was known as the American Basketball Association. He was also named ABA All-Star Game MVP that year. Anderson attended University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he played college basketball for the UMass Minutemen. He was named Most Valuable Player of the Northeastern Conference as a junior and senior. In his final season with the team, Anderson averaged 24 points, 10 assists, and 9 rebounds and led them to a 19–5 record.
